Cameron Missouri Local Information

Cameron, Missouri is located in Clinton County, in the Kansas City metro area. (The community straddles Clinton and DeKalb counties, and was named for Col. Elisha Cameron, father-in-law of founder Samuel McCorkle. The estimated population, in 2003, was 9,908.

Housing is Strong in Cameron

In the late 1990’s, a Citizen-Obersver headline proclaimed “Building Boom”, referring to Cameron’s resurgent and strong housing market. Residential construction activity continues solid into 2003.

Since 1994, Cameron builders have completed over 600 housing units with the peak coming in 1999 with 116 new homes. The nine-year average has been 66 new homes annually with 42 homes built in 2002. The home-construction pace continues at a similar rate in 2003.

The availability of building lots continues to fuel home construction with over 200 available lots among Cameron’s newer residential subdivisions. In fact, Cameron undoubtedly has more ready-to-build lots than any comparable city in the entire region. Most of these lots are complete with paved streets, curbs, water, sewer, gas and all amenities in place. Lot costs range from $13,000 to over $40,000 and average around $17,000 per lot.

Cameron’s newest residential subdivisions include Hidden Creek with 49 lots; Eagles Landing with 84 lots; Willow Brook with 149 lots; Valley Brook with 52 lots; Greenridge with 22 lots; and Hilltop Acres with 14 lots. In addition to single-family homes in all price ranges, Cameron developers have also built scores of duplexes and multi-family units in Connell Park, Country Club Square, and portions of Willow Brook to meet the needs of renters.

Cameron schools also address housing needs. Each year the Building and Trades class constructs a new home which is sold to the public with profits going to help fund the program.

Historic Attractions

The most famous occupant of this elegant 1891 banker’s house was Ted Sanders who was a political ally and confidant of President Harry Truman. Sanders headed the Clinton County Democratic party while Truman did likewise in adjoining Clay County. The two became lifelong friends and Sanders was a special guest at Truman’s inauguration as well as a regular White House visitor. Truman took time to write Sanders from the 1945 Potsdam Conference with Churchill and Stalin that the talks “were going along in good shape”, but because of the widespread bombing that he had “yet to see a chicken in any yard”. Sanders sent Truman a turkey each Christmas for over 30 years. This ornate Queen Anne Victorian home features impressive oak woodwork, four fireplaces and 52 doors.

Other historic places in the area include Tuggle Monuments, Depot Museum, Veteran's Memorial, Musser Mansion, Darby House, Thompson House, 513 S. Chestnut, Price Home, 403 S. Chestnut, Goodrich Building, The Ole School, among others.

Medical Facilities

A fully-staffed, 24-hour emergency room is one of the many health care services offered by Cameron Regional Medical Center which opened its new facility at I-35 & BB in 2002. The Medical Center features 33 Medical-Surgical beds, a five-bed ICU, a ten-bed GeroPsychiatric Unit, and a six-bed Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. North Missouri’s first Behavorial Health Unit with inpatient psychological services. CRMC is the city’s third largest employer with an Active Medical Staff of 16 and a Consulting Medical Staff comprised of 98 physicians.

These are just a few of the reasons why so many of us have chosen this little corner of the world to call home. It is simply a great place to relax, enjoy life, raise a family and enjoy contentment. It is a place where neighbors are still neighbors.
